Eating on the Trail.

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Quaker Oats for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

QSBB Yum Image high res.jpgI just discovered a great product that would have made a nice addition to my recent camping trip. When you are out hiking in the mountains, you have to watch what you are packing. The last thing you want is to have a heavy backpack that makes it difficult and cumbersome to hike.

The Quaker Soft Baked Bar is small and compact but packed with 5g of Fiber, 6g of protein and is an excellent source of 5 B-vitamins. With only 140 calories, this wholesome food is great for in between meals, a breakfast snack, or an energizing treat on the trail.
The bars come in two delicious flavors.
Cinnamon Pecan Bread.

Banana Nut Bread.

I think Banana Nut Bread might prove to be my favorite and I will definitely try both flavors.
At home, they can be popped in the microwave for that just baked pastry experience. Of course, they are wonderful just out of the wrapper and that is important when you are on the trail or at a family outing.
I plan to make plenty of other camping trips this summer. I will include the Quaker Soft Baked Bar on my food list. I plan to share the bars with my friends and I am sure they will love them too. I might even share a bite or two with Lucie my big, red dog.
Yes, I know I spoil her, but she deserves a treat every now and then. She is a great camper and hiker.

Organic Gardening.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Whitney Farms for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Whitney-Farms-Logo_Banner_New_C.jpg (6 documents, 6 total pages)
Gardening and growing your own food is so much fun and a great way to provide nutritious foods for your family. I love to grow flowers, plants, and vegetables. Living in the Desert Southwest has proved a challenge for my gardening skills. Summer consists of brutal temperatures and limited rainfall.
When I grocery shop I notice the organic produce. I see the difference in the texture and color of organic vegetables. Only the price keeps me from indulging. When times are tough you have to cut back and make do with what you have.
It is possible to grow your own organic produce. Whitney Farms® has a full line of products with organic soil that contains beneficial microbes, low to no dust, and protein-based blends that will help your plants grow and thrive.
Using organic plant food is the perfect way to give your family pesticide free produce and save money at the supermarket. The 100% natural plant foods have no manure odor and are easy to apply.
Whitney Farms is offering a $3 off coupon so now is a great time to try the organic plant food. When I am settled in my new place I plan to garden in pots and I am excited to try growing organic veggies.
This is a great way to save money and give your family healthful produce to enjoy this year.

Friday Night Tradition.

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Guest post from: Bruno Smith

My husband and I have a new Friday night tradition. We meet at the house after work and decide what we’ll do for the evening. Our options are typically the following: order take out and sit on the couch watching a movie, or get dressed up, meet friends, and spend entirely too much on food and drinks. I am a little ashamed to admit that for the past few Fridays we have barely even considered the second option.

It is just so easy to change in to pajamas and hang out on the couch. It’s the best way to relax after a long week of work; the toughest decision we have to make is whether to get Chinese food or pizza. It’s so perfect. And thanks to Direct TV Movies, we don’t even have to make a trip to the movie store or to one of those rental boxes. It could not be any easier. We get our food, settle in, and order a movie on TV. I have a pretty good feeling this recent tradition is going to be one we stick with for a long time.

Art Work.

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

The article written by Alonso Kramer

When we were growing up, my sister was always so good at any kind of art. She could draw really well, painted well, and she was always so creative. When she got to college, she became an art major. My parents were not exactly thrilled about her choice for a major because they thought she would not be able to make any money with an art degree. Despite their concerns, my sister graduated with a degree in art last year and has been working as an art teacher.

Her real dream was to open an art gallery. She has been working with some other artists to open an art gallery. They have found a space to use and they are working on setting up all of the utilities. She told me that she went to t1.xo to set up phone and internet for her new art gallery. She said they just have to put a few finishing touches on some of the pieces that they have all contributed and that the gallery should be opening next week. She invited my parents to the opening and I think they are actually pleasantly surprised that she has been successful in achieving her dream.

I am so proud of her and I hope that she can continue to turn her passion into a career.

Thoughts on Traveling.

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

I recently spoke with my best friend, Lady Red on taking a red eye road trip to Laughlin, Nevada. Why? Well you take a bus overnight and wake up to a great resort on the river. You can gamble, eat, and enjoy free drinks. Yes, free drinks. I am not much of a gambling person, but I could sure sit on the river’s edge and sip a margarita or two.

The conversation got me thinking about places I would like to visit someday. Paris, Rome, and Calgary immediately come to mind. Experiencing the Eiffel Tower or cruising the Seine River would certainly make my top ten list. I could probably sit in the Sistine Chapel for hours and gaze at Michelangelo’s amazing work.

Calgary would be a great place to experience mountain views, lakes, and parks. I have always loved these type of areas and I am sure I would have a great time on this sort of tour.

I am looking forward to traveling in the future. I would love to see more of my country as well as different cultures, cities, and landscapes

Spring Fever.

Friday, March 9th, 2012

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Bulbs. Dig, Drop, Done. for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Since spring is just around the corner naturally, my thoughts turn to gardening. I actually had a small, successful garden this winter. I grew lettuce, spinach, carrots, and onions. I live in the Desert Southwest and summer is brutal on my plants.

I not only love the veggies I also like to grow flowers and plants. I have always wanted to try bulbs. There is such a variety of blooms with vibrant colors and shapes. I recently learned that I could visit Curbside Chaos, use the Garden Guru Tool, and find the perfect bulbs for my area of the country.

It is super easy.

1. Select your country
2. Find your region.
3. Choose your favorite bulb.
4. Use the planting guide and you are on your way to beautiful blooms.

Here is a shot of my planting guide.

If you submit a photo of your yard, you will be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 yard makeover! How exciting is that? The contest is meant to help educate women one how easy bulbs are to grow and how they make an exciting addition to the home or garden.

Part of the prize is a visit from Taniya Nayak to give the lucky winner tips on home gardening. For more tips, follow Taniya @TaniyaNayak on Twitter.

You can also visit www.digdropdone.com to learn more tips on raising bulbs. For every share on Twitter, Dig, Drop, Done will donate $1.00 to Rebuilding Together, a leading non-profit company working to restore neighborhoods across the country by providing affordable housing.

While you are visiting Dig, Drop, Done check out three special women. Juliana, Evelyn, and Marcy. They each have great tips to share and I am sure you will identify with at least one of them.

This is Evelyn. She and I are very similar in age, 3 grown kids and of course our love of gardening. I definitely do not need the big curlers. I was blessed with my own curls.

So, if you are a garden enthusiast like me, check out the sites I mentioned. Bulbs can be grown indoors and the whole family can get involved in the process. Catch Spring Fever this year and turn your garden into a show place that will be the envy of your neighborhood!

Gift Baskets are Always a Good Choice.

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Sometimes it is hard to know what to give to friends and relatives on special occasions. St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are coming up soon. Not everyone wants to go out for green beer. Some might like to celebrate at home with a party. How cute is this one?

We all like to bring a hostess gift when invited to a party. One present that is always appreciated is a gift basket. They come for every event and can include just about anything from food to flowers or toiletries.

Gift baskets can be purchased from store, websites, www.gourmetgiftbaskets.com, or contents that are bought
separately. It is fun to build your own and the whole family can get involved.

I have seen wine baskets, ingredients for a meal, and items for a birthday party. The possibilities are endless and even though it might be hard to choose just one, there truly is a basket out there for everybody.

When you are done, you have a decorative basket or container for your home. You can even use they empty container to make a new basket to give as a gift. I think this is an appropriate way to re-gift.

It is something to think about the next time you need

A New Way to Organize Your Favorite Internet Sites.

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Have you heard about the new online tool called clipix? It is a great way to organize all of your favorite internet sites and share them with friends. All you need to do is sign up for clipix and then drag the clip button to your tool bar. It is that easy and you are ready to start clipping, saving and sharing.

You can save cooking, news, or any site you like. Organize you clips into clipboards for every category for easier browsing. One of the best features about clipix is you can create Syncboards to share with friends so they can enjoy your favorite sites. Check our the video.

Since I read tons of blogs, I can now organize them by genre so I can quickly go to my favorite military, mommie blogs, as well as recipe blogs. You can also add a clipix button on your blog as I have and that will make it easier for you visitors to return to your cipix content. lipix will help increase visitors and everyone wants more traffic to their sites.

Here is a screenshot of my clipx clipboards. I am still working on them and plan to add many more soon.

Everyone has used the favorites feature on his or her browser. Sure, you can make folders but with clipix, you can enjoy better organization with the clipboards. I especially like the sharing feature. Before clipix, I would just send a link to someone if I wanted to let people know about an internet site. Now, all they have to do is click on my paper clip and browse the sites I find interesting and informative.

Go ahead and try Clipix out for yourself. I know you will love it as much as I do.

Travel Fix

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Guest post written by Kevin Beach

The minute my bags hit the bed in my hotel room, I reached for the remote and flipped on direct tv corpus christine. The flight into Texas had been smooth but baggage claim had led to me the point of breaking out into sweats. There is nothing quiet as fearful as being left standing at the carousel and wondering why in the world your bags are the LAST ones on the belt.

To my relief, they showed up just before I started toward customer service. All I wanted to do was enjoy a hot shower & get lost in some TV before preparing for tomorrows presentation. I had already decided room service was in order tonight and an old movie. After that, I would be all geared up to work on the laptop and prepare the final touches for tomorrows big meeting with corporate. Anytime I travel out of town, I have a mini-me vacation. It always consists of a hot shower, room service, and a movie. It is good for the traveling soul.

Help for Prescription Drugs.

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have been without medical insurance since I was laid off in August of last year. I live in fear that I will get sick and not be able to seek medical treatment. The last thing I need is a huge medical bill that could put me in debt.

Since prescription drugs are so expensive without insurance it is quite possible that many people do not get the drugs needed to treat their illness.

Walgreens Prescription Savings Club allows people to obtain an affordable plan to be able to purchase the drugs needed to get well. For only $35 dollars a year a family can join the plan. This includes dependents 22 years of age and under as well as pets. I especially like this feature. You never know when your pet might get sick or sustain an injury. Individuals like me can join for just $20 a month.

Other benefits include savings on 8,000 brand-name drugs and on all generic prescriptions. If someone needs diabetic supplies, pet prescriptions, nebulizers, or a flu shot the plan provides a discount to cover these needs. You can also earn bonuses when you purchase Walgreens products or use the photofinishing service.

One great way to spread the word about this program is to like Walgreens on Facebook and follow Walgreens on Twitter.

I do not know when I will find a job and it certainly is great to know that I can find an affordable prescription plan.
